So last night I had that horrible feeling where my mind wakes up before my body does and I can’t move. The panic I feel during these episodes is unbearable. Like I’m going to die. During this all I could see was a picture of my mom and then the panic turned into intense agony. I’ve had this happen before but the picture was of me and my sis Jeanine in happier times when I was like three or four. I was finally able to wake myself up and I cried for a little bit then fell back to sleep. I wish I knew what caused the whole mind waking up before the body. It had been awhile since this last happened. Maybe the stress I’ve been feeling lately plus mothers day brought it on.

Anyone else have this happen to them? My father says this happens to him too but each time he hears a really loud noise like a train going by. I’ve had that too a few times.

It’s called sleep paralysis.

Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM (rapid eye movement) state, but the body paralysis persists. This leaves the person fully conscious, but unable to move. The paralysis can last from several seconds to several minutes “after which the individual may experience panic symptoms and the realization that the distorted perceptions were false”

I use to get it a lot when I was younger. I use to over sleep and I thought God was punishing me for not getting up when I was suppose to. LOL.
